![]() The snake game itself would probably be extremely similar to the software on the phone in terms of presentation and controls.Ĥ. It’s possible the snake game would need to be bundled with other games in order to make the product attractive. The biggest difference would probably be the addition of built in global leaderboards.ĬE: The design would need to be low cost enough to be viable for purchase alone. Web: The web design wouldn’t have the fidelity of a PC standalone version given the limits of web pages and flash, but it could be similar with 3D environments and perspectives and more advanced gameplay mechanics. However, for accurate control there should probably be some sort of physical remote. For example, for the shareable surface would it be best to have a tabletop or a wall-based surface? How will the users interact with the snake for each of the different interfaces by using a pen, fingertips, or other input device? Is it best to have a representation of a snake for each player or one they take turns to play with? If multiple snakes are used, what will happen if one person tries to move another person’s snake? Would you add any other rules? And so on.ĪR: There would need to be a reasonably flat surface for the snake to be portrayed on, so a floor, table, wall or even ceiling would work well. Consider specific design issues that will need to be addressed. They press the start button and the snake jumps to life as the miles on the road melt away.ģ. They pull out the handheld snake game, a small brightly colored rectangle with a simple LCD screen and directional pad. Global high scores are shown to the user on defeat.Ĭonsumer electronics: On a long car trip, a child in the backseat grows restless. The user then uses the arrow or WASD keys on their keyboard to control the snake. Their flash player is up to date, so the menu screen opens on the new page. ![]() Web: A user opens a browser and navigates to. They control the game with a physical directional remote, but the virtual 3D snake on the wall moves to catch virtual 3D targets. Remote in hand, they navigate to the snake application and load up a round. Describe a hypothetical scenario of how the game would be played for each of the three interfaces.Īugmented Reality: A user reclines on their couch facing the blank wall their 3D projector uses for AR experiences. A screen touch screen would be overkill, but 5–6 buttons would be just right.Ģ. This would be a very straightforward application, as most of the problems with website design don’t apply nearly as much to game applications.Ĭonsumer electronics and appliances: If designing a standalone handheld snake game, the manufacturer must be mindful to keep costs as low as possible by providing only the most essential functions on the device. Web: There might be issues with users finding links to the snake game to a website, but if it’s a single serving website this wouldn’t be an issue with a flash game. The only consideration would be with how the user views and controls the snake, such as with goggles and a remote. ![]() I think in this case, a tabletop or floor would do nicely for a play surface, so this isn’t much of an issue. For the wearable interface, issues to do with comfort and hygiene are important when designing the game.Īugmented Reality: Some issues could come with placing the snake game within reality spaces. Go through the research and design issues for each interface and consider whether they are relevant for the game setting and what issues they raise. The three interfaces I chose were Augmented Reality, Web, and Consumer Electronics.ġ. I selected three interfaces, other than the GUI and mobile ones and described how the game could be redesigned for each of these, taking into account the user group being targeted. For this assignment, they wanted me to consider the pros and cons of playing the same game using different interfaces. Assignment: I was asked to compare the experience of playing the game of Snake on a PC with playing on a cell phone.
